The Joel Stephens 5 C Award was created to honor the memory of one of the best athletes that has ever come out of the Southern Tier of New York and Northern Tier of Pennsylvania. Joel was a standout Football, Wrestler, Basketball, and Baseball player whose life was cut way too short due to cancer. He is the Elmira's all-time career rushing leader with 4,715 yards playing for the Notre Dame Crusaders. He was drafted out of high school to play baseball in the Baltimore Orioles organization before dying of cancer at the age of 22. Joe's life and character inspired the creation of the 5C Award named in his honor, standing for Courage, Compassion, Commitment, Character, and Christianity.
